Highlights from the 2019 Robotics Challenge


Who can enter the Challenge ?​

  • Students aged 10 - 14 years. 

  • Students may enter as individuals or teams (maximum of four per team). 

  • Schools, families or individuals are all eligible to enter. 

  • There are no age brackets within the competition to make the system as flexible as possible and allow the younger students access to the highest level of achievement.

  • Forty students from China will compete in the event.

  • Teams have been invited from a number of European Schools, including the Republic of Ireland.  A number of special guests and dignitaries have been invited to attend.


What are the rules and entry levels ?

  • The competition will have three levels of difficulty (courses).

Will there be an opportunity to set up and practice before the Challenge commences ?

  • Participants will be able to access the courses at Queens University Belfast on the previous evening - from 5pm until 7.30 pm. 

  • We will be running a teaching summer school from the 29th until the 31st July at Queens University Belfast in their Great Hall. Classes from 09.00 to 16.00 each day. Teachers and mentors will provide tuition on the three separate competition challenges as well as the speed race.  

  • For students and parents/guardians travelling longer distances and who may wish to stay overnight in advance of the competition both QUB Elms and  UU Jordanstown are offering very competitive rates.

Will there be prizes ?

  • The prizes will be :

  • Challenge 1 : £100

  • Challenge 2 : £200

  • Challenge 3 : £300

  • Challenge 4 : £500

The winning NI team of the Robot Transport Challenge might be invited to participate in China during their November 2019 competition.
